Qualified Opportunity Zones: Your Antidote to Economic Anxiety in Tumultuous Times

Qualified Opportunity Zones: Your Antidote to Economic Anxiety in Tumultuous Times

How A Phone Call Saved My Friend Over $50,000 Using A 1031 Exchange - Provident 1031 - Houston, The Woodlands

Looks like the end of the world is near.

There is chaos everywhere. There are multiple wars in far-off countries, and it is weighing heavily on the administration of an unpopular president. College campuses are torn by the controversy as well, with demonstrations, occupations of university buildings, police involvement, and commencement ceremonies being canceled. The price of oil has shot up, and people are feeling the pain not only at the pump, but at the cash register, especially the price of food. Discussions about the economy are riddled with words like “recession” and “stagflation.” Americans have never been more politically divided. There are deep concerns about our own existence due to global warming as “experts” profess concern as to how much longer the planet itself will be inhabitable by human beings.

Welcome to the 1970s

Fast-forward fifty years, and we’re reminded of Mark Twain once famously commenting that history doesn’t repeat itself, but it sure rhymes. Then, as now, headlines are dominated by tales of doom and gloom, and increasingly, people are courting the dangerous behavior of thinking that the end is nigh and behaving accordingly. If war, economic calamity, and social unrest don’t kill us, climate change or AI will. Is there really a point to any kind of long-term planning?

Listen carefully, folks. We’ve always lived in a chaotic world, and you should maintain a sense of perspective and plan accordingly.

So, with that in mind, keep your eye on the ball in terms of your life goals as well as your long-term financial planning. There will always be those who are doom and gloom. Maybe they’re right, maybe they’re wrong — but think back to the 1970s —Vietnam, Watergate, political and social unrest, spiking oil prices, stagflation, recession, global warming—and then take a deep breath. Nothing has really changed.

When everything around us feels out of control, Christians like myself can take assurance in God’s Word that God is, has been, and will be sovereign over ALL our lives and the world.

He is our peace and comfort.

Psalm 23:3 says, “He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” In this verse David has come to learn the comfort of depending on God. He recounts his experience as God being a shepherd for Him – leading him through troubles and guiding him. We can have confident hope that God will provide for us throughout all of life.
